My favorite books

I have many other books that I really like, but these are just three that come to mind. The Color Purple:
Although this is set in a very foreign time and place for me, the themes of independence and personal growth are universal and admirable. I really like how in this book you grow with the narrator throughout her life, and the first person narration and dialect changes as she does.
Harry Potter:
I'm not going to pretend, Harry Potter (except, of course, for the 5th) is definitely one of my favorite books. Even though it isn't remarkably well written, the plot is so engaging that its literary shortcoming are easily overlooked. Besides, who doesn't wish that they could have magical powers?
The Red Tent:
The Red Tent is interesting to me because i am able to relate to Dinah although pretty much every aspect of her life is different than mine. I find it interesting to imagine living like she did with four almost interchangeable mothers, and with such a definite division of the men's and women's lives. This book was really well written and established a strong connection with each of the characters.

  1. Wonderful choices here--and, btw, I was quite surprised when (during our book talk) Mrs. A. said she didn't like Harry Potter. Although I would agree that the books aren't always well-written, they are such engaging stories that I loved them all.... yup, even 5...

  2. HARRY POTTER is the best book ever! I agree the actual language is not so advanced, but I mean no one can beat the plot...so intriguing.

  3. I am so happy you wrote about Harry Potter. haha i love it and im not afraid to admit it. I started the Red Tent and thought it was really interesting, but it just seemed so foreign to me I put it down one day and never finished it. I really like the women empowerment feel to it, but it was hard for me to follow with all the thousands of family members. you reminded me that i want to re-read that. I highly respect your choice of books as favorites :)
